'Angelos' We Have Heard On
High
Ms. DeeDee Siytangco
They sound like angels,
and they are gwapings. Meet the three new members of the classical
pop group Angelos: 2s2-year-old John Louie Abaigar, Pinoy
Pop Superstar finalist, 14-year-old Miguel Aguila, Warner
recording artist and Aliw Awards Hall of Famer for Best Child
Performer; and 20-year-old Paolo Libiran, classical and recording
artist.
They are under voice coach
Eric Narvaez (as the former members were), and they are flying
high on wings of songs! Launched unofficially at our Bulong
Pulungan Christmas party before media and VIP guests (just
how the former members started their careers), the new members
of Angelos were welcomed enthusiastically, hailed as even
better-sounding than before! I couldn’t agree more!
This is because all the members
under the leadership of founder George Sison Tagle are professional
singers already, and their youth and voice timbre make for
a happy, melodious mix. They go from classical to pop to Broadway
without missing a beat.
I met up with the Angelos
at the Christmas party of the Mary Mother of the Poor Foundation
of Fr. Fernando Suarez, where they gladly sang pro bono. This
is something I like with Charo Yu, manager of the Angelos
– basta for charity, she is very accommodating and so
is George and the new members!
Fr. Suarez and Fr. Jeff Shannon
are music lovers aside from being tennis freaks. The other
mass choir that evening was composed of the tennis ‘gang’
of the two priests, and they, all ex-champs, sang excellently.
I expect to hear a lot from this group, always on wings of
songs.
The Angelos will be featured
in a February concert for the MMPF at he Manila Hotel, so
this will be something to look forward to!
Anyway, back to the Angelos,
the original three, Jen Joven, Floyd Tena, and James Uy, are
no longer with the group. They have chosen to sing individually.
They never signed a contract with Newsmakers/Publications
Promotions even after 100 concerts and stints in India, Europe,
USA and Asia. Angelos is registered under DTI-IPO under Newsmakers;
as such the name Angelos cannot be used by any other group.
